The Jean Monnet Chair Program
Jean Monnet (1888–1979) is considered the founder of the European Union. European integration based on Monnet’s plans and vision is an ongoing process contributing to peace and prosperity throughout Europe and beyond.
Originally launched in 1989, Jean Monnet projects are awarded by the European Commission as a part of the European Union’s Lifelong Learning Programme. Christopher Newport was chosen in 2010, and Dr. George K. Zestos holds the Jean Monnet Chair for European Integration Studies.
As Jean Monnet chair, Zestos teaches courses on European integration, conducts research, oversees related student research and invites distinguished speakers to campus to address issues of European integration. These lectures are open to the campus community and the public.
Zestos specializes in international economics with an emphasis on European integration. He frequently presents papers at academic conferences around the world and has published widely in international journals and edited books.
