THE KYLE S. OLESEVICH SCHOLARSHIP
Kyle Olesevich is a 2010 graduate of Christopher Newport University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and currently serves on the Alumni Society Board of Directors for CNU.
This $500 annual award can be applied toward CNU tuition or study abroad fees.
Applications for the Olesevich Scholarship are due each spring, and scholarship funds will be applied to the winning students’ account for the following academic year. To be eligible, applicants must have declared a major in anthropology, criminology, social work, or sociology. The scholarship can be applied to CNU tuition and/or study abroad fees during the student’s junior or senior year. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need. Applicants cannot already receive funding through the President's Leadership Program.
In order to be considered for the 2024-25 scholarship, applications must be submitted no later than 11:59pm (eastern time) on Friday, May 10.
To apply, students must submit a one-page (400 word maximum) essay outlining how the support of this scholarship will meaningfully help them achieve their academic goals. For example, this tuition award might support the cost of study abroad that a student would otherwise not have been able to do, or provide an opportunity to pay for additional credit hours so the student can graduate on time or early. It could also be that by defraying the cost of tuition that the student may now be able to purchase books, engage in a research project, travel to complete a worthwhile internship or volunteer experience, or even work fewer hours in their job so they can focus more on academics. There is no GPA requirement, but students must be in good academic standing to receive this scholarship.
Award recipients will be expected to provide a brief synopsis of how the funding was used to support their academic goals. This should be submitted to the SSWA department chair by the end of the summer of the academic year of the award.
