Moliere’s most famous comedy from the 17th century, Tartuffe, is presented with a contemporary flair. This scorching farce examines religion, hypocrisy and familial deceit. Tartuffe is a daring con man who sets his sights on a wealthy merchant’s daughter and fortune. He disguises himself as an ennobled man of the cloth and cons, Orgon, the impressionable merchant. Members of the household attempt to expose Tartuffe’s deceit, but Orgon is resolute in his patronage of Tartuffe. Finally, the family members band together to unveil Tartuffe as the greedy impostor.
