Music, Theatre and DanceThe Musical Theatre concentration prepares students to become versatile “triple-threat” performers through rigorous training in acting, singing, and dance. With coursework in music, character development, and narrative movement, students refine their craft through private lessons, studio-based classes, cabaret performances, and fully staged musicals in a wide range of styles. This immersive program builds technical excellence, artistic confidence, and professional discipline while offering extensive performance experience on stage.

Musical Theatre students train in a professional arts environment anchored by the Ferguson Center for the Performing Arts, one of the region’s premier performance venues. Small, studio-based classes provide close mentorship from faculty who are active, accomplished artists and educators. Students collaborate across music, theatre, and dance while participating in mainstage productions, workshops, and masterclasses with guest artists. These interdisciplinary and performance-driven experiences prepare students for the artistic and professional demands of the contemporary theatre industry.
Pairs Well With
The Musical Theatre concentration pairs especially well with majors and minors in Dance, Film Studies, Communication Studies, English, Pre-Law, Psychology, and Creative Writing. These interdisciplinary combinations allow students to customize their education toward careers in performance, media, storytelling, and arts leadership.

- Theater Core:
- THEA 232, 250, 252, 310, 311, 498;
- Three semesters of THEA 250L;
- MUSC 135, 136, 138, 139, 143, 144;
- Eight credit hours of THEA 130;
- Successful completion of THEA 130 Voice Jury in the first semester freshman year as adjudicated by the Theater faculty;
- THEA 333, 346; DANC 330^, 430^;
- Choose one: THEA 332, 334, 338, 430, 431;
- Six additional credit hours of approved THEA, DANC or MUSC electives;
- Performance participation in at least three approved public performances;
- Successful completion of the Theater Graduation Examination.
Theatre CNU
Theatre and Dance at CNU bring stories to life on stage year-round. TheatreCNU presents a season of four mainstage productions ranging from classical works to contemporary theatre, offering students meaningful performance and production experience in professional settings. Prospective students can also participate in Theatre Major for a Day, an opportunity to experience life as a Theatre and Dance student at CNU.
Career Options
Graduates pursue careers as performers in musical theatre, regional and touring productions, and entertainment industries. Alumni also work in related fields such as directing, choreography, teaching, arts administration, and creative production, or continue their studies in graduate programs in musical theatre, acting, or performance.
