Admission Requirements
Students interested in the Social Work major will complete a formal application during their sophomore year (an overall GPA of 2.5 is required). Most social work courses will be completed in the junior and senior years, although freshmen and sophomores can take introductory courses such as SOWK201, SOWK210. Freshmen and sophomore students will focus on liberal learning requirements and should take the biology and math requirements for the major.
Degree Requirements
Students majoring in Social Work will earn the degree of BA, Social Work.
In addition to successful completion of the liberal learning curriculum, the major in social work requires successful completion of the following courses in major and elective studies:
- BIOL 109L and one BIOL 100-level lecture course;
- MATH 125;
- PSYC 201;
- SOCL 201, 205 or ANTH 203;
- SOCL 316, 340;
- SOWK 201, 210, 211, 301, 301L, 302, 303, 366, 401, 402W, 493 and 498.
Because courses are sequential, students are required to meet regularly with a social work faculty advisor.
