Degree Requirements
Students majoring in Anthropology will earn the degree of BA, Sociology.
In addition to successfully completing the liberal learning curriculum, the sociology major requires successful completion of the following major and elective courses with no more than two grades below C-:
- MATH 125;
- SOCL 201 and 205;
- SOCL 340, 390W, 470W, and 490W; all completed at Christopher Newport University in this department only and passed with a grade of C- or higher;
- Select an additional 4 SOCL courses (12 credit hours) at the 300-400 level;
- Select an additional 2 ANTH, CRIM, GEOG or SOCL courses (6 credit hours) at the 300-400 level;
- In total, at least 18 credit hours in SOCL courses must be earned at Christopher Newport University;
- Successful completion of departmental qualifying examinations
The minor in sociology requires a minimum of 18 credit hours in sociology. Required courses are:
- SOCL 201
- SOCL 205
- Additional 12 credit hours in SOCL courses at the 300-level or above
