Graduate Programs

This graduate program in environmental science explores the knowledge, technical skills and background in ecological and environmental conservation theory. Biology, biochemistry or chemistry majors can complete the master’s degree program during a fifth year of study at Christopher Newport.

The program is flexible enough to fit a wide variety of interests and is designed for students planning to pursue a PhD, teachers who seek a master’s degree in a biological science or students interested in careers with environmental agencies.

Five-year Bachelor’s-to Master’s Program

Current Christopher Newport students can apply during their junior year and earn a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree with a thesis with 30 additional credits beyond the bachelor’s degree.

Traditional Master's Program

Traditional program with thesis

Current Christopher Newport seniors and those who already hold a bachelor’s degree can apply to the traditional program. With 30 graduate hours, you can earn a master in environmental science while doing original research in the field.

Traditional program non-thesis option

Students who have an undergraduate degree, or will have by the time they enter, may take 33 graduate hours to earn their MS in environmental science.
