Captains Launch is a virtual summer transition program offered to newly admitted freshmen as an enhanced support system during the first semester of college. By participating, you are taking the first step toward achieving your personal and academic goals. Our goal is to support your transition from high school to college – before you arrive, and throughout your first term as a college student.
In Captains Launch, you will learn about adjusting to college both on a personal and academic level. You'll complete lessons and assignments related to:
- Academics
- Study strategies
- Time management techniques
- Campus culture
You will also have an opportunity to evaluate your own strengths and challenges and connect with key university resources.
The Launch program requires that you successfully complete College 140 - The Transitional Learner, a two-credit course, during the fall. As preparation for your fall term and College 140, you will complete online modules over the summer, as well as attend and complete the Campus Experience Module prior to Welcome Week.
Your academic performance will be closely monitored by your faculty and adviser as well as our staff in order to help keep you on the path to success. In addition, your enrollment in College 140 facilitates your adjustment to the demands of university academics. The course focuses on:
- Personal and academic goal setting
- Evaluating personal learning styles
- Developing successful study skills
- Enhancing appreciation for cultural diversity and service
You'll gain a greater understanding of learning theories, problem-solving approaches and the application of academic skills needed to be successful in the university classroom.
