Now that you are admitted, here are the items you’ll need to complete (if you haven’t done so already):

Complete and turn in your immunization records by July 1 for fall admission and December 1 for spring admission.

Apply for need-based financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible. The priority deadline to submit your FAFSA is March 1. Applications are accepted and encouraged after this date, but funding may be limited. Christopher Newport's school code is 003706.

Complete your upper class contract acceptance as soon as possible for planning purposes. Housing is on a first-come, first-served basis for all incoming transfer students.

Contact your current college or university to request your final official transcript(s) be sent to The Transfer Center by the first week of August for fall admission and by the first week of January for spring admission.
Contact each college or university you have attended and request that your transfer college report (verification of enrollment) be sent to The Transfer Center by the first week of August for fall admission and by the first week of January for spring admission.
We require a transfer college report after your current semester ends and grades are posted. Failure to submit all transfer college reports will result in cancellation of registration and housing. Should Christopher Newport learn of conduct that would violate our standards, we may reconsider any admission decision and may withdraw our offer of admission and cancel all registration.
Once you accept your offer of admission, we will mail you a welcome packet between May and August for fall admission and in December for spring admission. This packet contains your initial class schedule, CNU email credentials and academic adviser information.
- Log in to CNU Live
Test your CNU Live log-in information within 10 days of receiving your welcome letter. If you experience any difficulty, call IT Services at (757) 594–7079.

- Generate a Degree Evaluation
Refer to the registration guide to generate a degree evaluation. The degree evaluation will show you how your previously completed classes and the classes you are registered for apply to the degree requirements. - View your Transfer Credit Evaluation
Once you log in to CNU Live, view your transfer credit evaluation under Student Services & Financial Aid, Student Records and Transfer Coursework. Any classes posted with an IP (in progress) grade will not be reviewed for possible credit until our office receives the final transcript from your previous college. - Review your course schedule
Your preliminary course schedule is listed on CNU Live under Student Services & Financial Aid, Registration, and Student Detail Schedule. Our staff will register you for your classes by mid August for the fall semester and by mid December for the spring semester. - Meet with your faculty adviser
Once our staff has registered you for classes, schedule an appointment with your faculty adviser to review your schedule and obtain your alternate PIN (required for schedule adjustment). You can make changes to your schedule during the schedule adjustment period.
The Changing Tides orientation program is designed specifically for transfer students. Whether you are transferring from a two-year or four-year college or university, this orientation provides information essential to making your Christopher Newport experience a success (applies to first-time transfers only).
During Changing Tides you'll get your Captains Card, your student ID card and lifeline to campus. You'll use it to access your meal plan and Captain's Cash account, and to check out game-room equipment or student club office keys in the David Student Union.

Once we have created your preliminary schedule, your bill will be posted online (you will not receive a bill in the mail). You can access all financial information, including tuition, through your CNU Live account. For information regarding tuition and fees and corresponding payment due dates and payment options, please contact the Business Office.
Textbooks can be purchased through the Captain's Locker, CNU's online bookstore. Please allow sufficient time for delivery.
All parking at Christopher Newport is decal-enforced. Buy your decal at Parking and Transportation Services, located in the parking garage of the Ferguson Center for the Arts. Be sure to bring your vehicle registration and driver's license with you.
While computer labs are available in select locations on campus, students are expected to bring a laptop that meets our recommended specifications listed below to ensure adequate IT support.

Additionally, consider visiting our vendor partners, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Dell and Apple for pricing options and our recommendations for laptops that will work effectively on the CNU network. As a reminder, you will need to maintain an updated anti-virus solution as well as your operating system.

- Fine Arts and Humanities recommends students bring computers capable of running Adobe Creative Cloud apps
- Some programs used by Physics, Computer Science and Engineering run more smoothly on Windows but can work on macOS
- For students in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, Windows is strongly recommended
