Summer Music Institute
The Summer Music Institute is designed for serious high school musicians who intend to major in music or to continue participating in music at the college level. This year, the Institute will focus on Percussion Studies. Music teachers who wish to increase their knowledge of percussion instruments and techniques are also welcome to register.
Instruction includes clinics in:

- Orchestral percussion
- World percussion
- Drum set and jazz percussion
- Marching band battery percussion
- Marching band front ensemble percussion
- Percussion ensemble
The clinics will be taught by Christopher Newport’s outstanding faculty. In addition, students are invited to perform on an informal recital, attend a faculty/alumni percussion recital, and perform on the culminating concert by the Institute’s percussion ensemble.
Eligibility
All high school rising freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible to participate.
