Christopher Newport University is located in Newport News, Virginia in one of the most historic and beautiful areas in the United States. Virginia, which borders Washington, D.C., is located mid-way between New York and Florida on the eastern coast of the U.S. Newport News is geographically the fourth-largest city in the state. CNU is named after Captain Christopher Newport – the 17th century sailor who helped establish Jamestown Colony, the first permanent English-speaking settlement in the New World.
