Students will realize strong, enduring value from a comprehensive liberal arts education anchored in excellence that prepares them to understand contemporary challenges, solve complex problems, think critically, adapt to changing professional demands and career opportunities, develop fully as individuals, and become engaged citizens. The liberal arts-based curriculum, University programs, outstanding teaching, student involved research, and mentoring will empower excellence in academics, including artistic creation and the sciences, and a commitment to service that contributes to a life of meaning in a free, democratic society and interconnected world.
Signature programs of distinction driven by a focus on outbound success will help graduates meet contemporary challenges and career demands while also responding to the interests of prospective students.
Academic and co-curricular offerings will include interdisciplinary and experiential learning that foster the development of tangible, transferable skills. Holistic student development promotes intellectual, emotional, and physical well-being and involves academics, athletics, arts, community engagement, support systems, and other student centered programming.
Goal 1 - Promote the timeliness and practicality of a liberal arts education and its values of intellectual exploration and curiosity.
Revitalize the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum (LLC) to sustain student engagement and ensure timeliness and relevance of the curriculum.
Identify and develop new opportunities for students to engage in interdisciplinary study.
Communicate transferable intellectual, technological, and professional skills associated with a liberal arts education.
Continually explore new majors connected to emerging fields and potential expansion of graduate-level programs.
Goal 2 - Infuse experiential and experience-based learning into a CNU education.
Enhance opportunities for experiential learning within the curriculum and across schools/colleges.
Develop a University co-curricular framework that includes internships and other forms of immersive professional development so that administrative departments can provide experienced-based educational opportunities for students.
Expand co-curricular offerings to broaden leadership development and civic engagement opportunities for all students.
Goal 3 - Advance and promote excellence in teaching and scholarship.
Promote an institutional culture that elevates the value of teaching excellence by expanding comprehensive support, incentives, and professional development for teaching and learning across campus.
Identify opportunities to expand instructor support for interdisciplinary course and curriculum development.
Increase support for research, scholarship, and professional development consistent with faculty responsibilities as teacher-scholars.
