Frequently Asked Questions
Christopher Newport accepts applications through the Common Application.
We have three application deadlines. Early Decision is a binding decision with a November 15 deadline. The non-binding Early Action deadline is December 1 and our Regular Decision deadline is February 1.
We have no preference between the SAT and ACT. If students take both tests, we will use the higher scores in our review.
We also accept the CLT. Students can also apply as test-optional.
Yes, interviews are a great way to enhance your application for admission and get a personalized introduction to Christopher Newport. Interviews are encouraged for all applicants and are required for consideration for our President’s Leadership Program and Honors Program. Students only need to complete one interview.
Early Decision applicants can receive notification on December 15. The Early Action notification date is January 15 and Regular Decision applicants are notified on March 15. All notifications are sent via the mail.
We have two merit-based scholarship programs available for our incoming freshman — the President’s Leadership Program and the Honors Program. Students apply to the programs through the online admission application and must complete an interview with a member of our admission staff. Learn more about our scholarships through the Merit Scholarship link in the menu on the left.
All notifications are sent via the mail. Scholarship notifications are sent on February 1 for Early Decision and Early Action applicants and April 1 for Regular Decision applicants.
