Admission Review
We feel that a holistic review that encompasses all aspects of your background and application is the most effective method for finding students for whom Christopher Newport is the right fit. Typically, competitive transfer applicants present at least 12-15 credit hours of college-level credit and an earned cumulative GPA of 2.8. We strongly encourage completion of one college-level mathematics and English course. Standardized test scores are encouraged but not required.
Although many factors are considered in the transfer application review process, the most important factor is the rigor of the applicant’s previous academic program(s) and grades earned in previous academic courses.
An interview is a great way to personally provide additional information beyond what we might find in your transfer application, transcript(s) or test scores. While not required for transfer admission, we strongly encourage all transfer applicants to participate in a transfer admission interview.
Other factors included in the holistic review of transfer applications include the following:
- Leadership and service
- Interview
- Major requested
- Personal statements and/or essay
- Extracurricular activities
Transfer applicants who are interested in the post-graduation outcomes of our graduates can obtain career, employment and post-secondary enrollment information from the Center for Career Planning. Additional information about most popular majors and degrees, retention rates, graduation and other institutional profile data are available from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV).
New transfer students are admitted on a full-time or part-time basis. If admitted as a full-time student, you are expected to enroll full-time (12 or more hours) each semester at Christopher Newport.
Applicant Expectation
Concealment of previous attendance at another college or university is cause for cancellation of your admission and registration.
After the point of admission, all students who plan to enroll at Christopher Newport are required to submit a transfer college report (enrollment and conduct verification) from each institution previously attended. Should Christopher Newport learn of conduct that would violate our standards, we may reconsider any admission decision and may withdraw our offer of admission and cancel all registration.
